SWS Horse Updates

Look who's just arrived at the Summerwinds Stables

Happy Tales

Here are just a few Happy Tales from our Rescue....

Jetting, adopted by one of our Board Members as a green-broke gelding just about off the track is now doing dressage and natural horsemanship in sunny California! According to his owner, Jet sparkles like a copper penny and is the "mane squeeze" in her life. We are so pleased that this horse has gone so far in his life thanks to her hard work and dedication!

Together At Last...Together Forever....

Lots of farm visitors really loved Celeste and Zunie, two wonderful paints that came to us from Rhode Island. We are happy to report that they are together again after quite a few months apart. These horses will be spoiled and loved on a bay-front farm in Delaware. Zunie will enjoy his semi-retirement and Celeste (now Summer) has the most beautiful life as a trail horse that any gal could ever want. Their pasture overlooks the bay, trees, and their friends include two mini horses, peacocks and great dane dogs! Wow! What a life!

Lord of Everything

Our Lord Don is a keeper, thanks to his previous owners he is retired forever at our farm. This horse is loved by all our volunteers - adults and children alike. He plays Parelli games, partakes in our clinics, does demonstrations, and is the most perfect gentleman you've ever met. His favorite person is the one who brings treats!!! Don just got his teeth floated, thanks to our wonderful dentist! He constantly watches out for all the horses - especially his favorite Twister pony! We love this horse very much!

Second Chance Sebastian

Sebastian got a second chance at a new career at our rescue! He was adopted by a wonderful gal who is currently training him in natural horsemanship. The two can be seen out on the trails, spending time together as they bond. This special guy, a great grandson of Secretariat, wants for nothing in his new home! We wish them many happy trails!

Space Soverign

Many folks liked Space but only one gal stole his heart! Space now resides with Sebastian at a wonderful farm in Delaware. The gal who adopted him spoils him rotten, rides him weekly and has spent much of her allowance making sure his every need is met! They are a wonderful pair and we hope to see them in the show ring this year!

The Summerwinds is saddened to report that Skipper passed over the Rainbow Bridge at the end of September. Although we treated him with everything we had - medical bills totalling over $2700.00 - he did not make it through. Countless volunteers and medical professionals did all they could over the summer to help this horse overcome his diagnosed condition of heaves, but he was not strong enough to make it.

Pops, and all his friends at the SummerWinds Stables will never forget this kind and gentle soul. We should all take a moment and think a happy thought in memory of Skipper, who had such heart for everyone he met. There may be hatred in the world, but Skipper only knew love. Blessed be, sweet horse.

Everyone needs a friend!

Everyone needs a friend. Just last week, a new horse arrived at SWS named Pops.

Skipper, our sickly Quarter horse gelding, fighting heaves, infection and stomach ulders, is not doing so hot. Chances of him making it are not great, but he is in good hands and we are hopeful.

Skipper wanders our farm freely, and he was immediately drawn to Pops. The two paired up and have been inseperable ever since.

You see, Pops is completely blind but he can see with his heart.

Skipper now wears a jingle bell so Pops knows where he is at all times. When Pops calls, Skipper jingles his bell. Skipper is patient while Pops licks his neck, plays with his hair and rests his head for awhile. If he goes too close to the fence, Skipper nips at him. They share meals, and where one is, the other is not very far behind.

Sounds like true friendship if you ask me.

As I sat and watched my two boys interact in our small pasture today, I was deeply touched as they nuzzled and sighed over nighttime hay.

No matter who you are, where you are in life, the love theses horses share is proof that God loves us and wants us to love one another. No matter what you are facing, how many obstacles in your way, or how many times you've been let down...someone is there waiting to give you a hand, a hug, or a nip to let you know you may be headed off course.

Life is precious. Go out and embrace a friend...family member...horse...tell that someone how much you love them and that no matter what the obstacle, hope always rises.

I am so blessed to have these horses in my life. Take the time to see with your heart, just like Pops does.

Its a Boy!

The SummerWinds Stables welcomes our newest bundle of joy...

Summer's Noah's Wish

Noah, a sweet 3 week old Chincoteague pony arrived at the SWS with his Mom looking for the good life. He is doted on by all our volunteers, friends and family. This little palomino paint pony is sure to steal your heart. He has a little dove on his shoulder and is definately NOT peaceful! We can hardly keep up with our little guy!!! Come visit him at the SummerWinds Hartly Stable.

I am an Animal Rescuer

My job is to assist God's creatures
I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs
I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures
without planning or selection
I have bought dog food with my last dime
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid
I have fallen in love a thousand times
And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count
I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends
I don't often use the word "pet"
I notice those lost at the road side
And my heart aches
I will hand raise a field mouse
And make friends with a vulture
I know of no creature unworthy of my time
I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven
But I believe there are
Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind
Some may think we are master of the animals
But the animals have mastered themselves
Something people still haven't learned
War and Abuse make me hurt for the world
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind
We are a quiet but determined army
And we are making a difference every day
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan
nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
who only days ago, was too weak to eat
By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue
I have been rescued
I know what true unconditional love really is
for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many
Grateful for so little
I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full
